What you've been doing

Riobamba! What a name, he? I think that this town's name makes it worth traveling to.

It takes you about 4 hours to come by bus from Quito. You can combine it well with a trip to Banos and then go down. We decided to stop over here on our way down to Peru.

Came in at around 11:00 after we took the bus at 7:00. This leads me to the question why we always have to get up so early? Another 5:30 a.m. alarm! I thought this was holiday. Well, for me it's working anyway so I better tell you today's story.

We checked into the Tren dorado hostal and asked the owner Raoul for a tour to the Ecuador{s hightest moutain Chimborazo, some 6,300 meters high. Unfortunately the weather was not that good but I insisted on going. You can drive with the car to the refuge at 4,800 meters. From there you can walk up to 5,000 meters through a moonlike scenery.

The scary part is that you are welcomed by the tombstones of the mountaineers who challenged Chimborazo with fatal consequences. And there are quite a lot. So this mountain is definitely no place to mess with.

The climb to the second refuge is safe though and only a challenge to unadjusted travel pigs. But I made it: First pig at 5,000 meters! Yeeehaaak!

A proud toodaloo, Livingstone.
