Escaped to the beautiful town of Samaipata, some two hours from Santa Cruz. It is up in the mountains but not as high as the Andes. Only 1,800 meters. A piece of cake for me.
A lot of German and Dutch are people living here. Their rush on the village started many years ago after a teacher from the German College started a little cottage house business. Some of his guests liked it so much that they decided to stay there and start there own business such as a German bakery, a butcher shop, bar, tour companies or the Gourmet restaurant "Landhaus".
My friends took me up the mountains to the ruin of "El Fuerte" which is said to be the archeological capital of Eastern Bolivia. The locals celebrated the Inkan winter solstice festival "Inti Raymi" there. They told that some thousand people joined the festivities last year but this year their were just some camping tourists, a small fire and two indigenous girls playing the Ukulele. Anyway, I was at an Inka site at Inti Raymi and will watch the England-Brazil quarter finals tonight.
