What you've been doing

If I didn't wasn't a full-time Piggy travel correspondent, I think that I would have been an architect...

As you may have seen from earlier postings, the work of Frank Lloyd Wright tickles my curly little tail. On of his most famous and widely acclaimed buildings, and one that I have been wanting to visit for ages now, is a house called Fallingwater in Pennsylvania. Well, at last, I have now been to this famed building.

Fallingwater was built as a private residence and weekend home back in 1939 and has been open to the public in 1964. It's a gorgeous house...from the outside, but I was a little disappointed with the interior. It was pretty unique, but it didn't seem that special to me - it wasn't full of that Wright charm and clean lines that I like so much. True Franky fans might feel differently, and think that I am talking heresy, but that's the way I felt. One nice touch was the steps in the living room that go down to the river that flows under the house!

The exterior view is amazing, with the house perched over a waterfall and the large cantilevered balconies that give the house the distinctive appearance. We took the "in-depth" tour, which takes 2 hours, and is the only tour that they permit you to take photographs of the inside. This tour is only available at 8:30 in the morning. A reservation is essential. It's not cheap either, at $50 per person - (Travelpigs get in free)...
