What you've been doing

A now almost deserted medieval town, Melfi is crowned by the formidable castle where Pope Nicholas II conducted the investiture of Robert Guiscard in 1059, thus legitimizing the Normans in the south. Melfi subsequently became the Norman capital. The castle houses the Museo Nazionale del Melfese, with its collection of Byzantine jewelry.
