Fontana di Trevi is the place you come to to chuck your coin in the fountain to guarantee your return to Rome. It was also made famous, if you didn't already know, by Anita Eckberg throwing herself in it in 'La Dolce Vita'.
It was great, very busy and the sound of the water is relaxing if you can forget you are surrounded by hoards of tourists. There is a great little snack bar on the corner which sold the most luscious strawberry or fragole ice cream I have ever tasted. Along with the chocolate, pistachio, tiramisu, mint and vanilla, to name just a few.
Wearily we made our way back to the hotel for some R 'n' R before venturing out for dinner. As we were unsure of the area we asked at reception for a trattoria nearby. With a jug of house wine at 8 euros and wonderful food it ended our first day.
