What you've been doing

Maracana - the sacred pitch. Birth place of Brazilian football legends. Pele shot his 1000th goal here in 1969. Up to 170,000 people watched matches here. Today safety measures have been increased and capacity lowered. But the fascination remains.

I sneaked away from Carsten for my own exploration tour. As you can see on the picture I even made it into the changing room. Too bad Ronaldo wasn't there.

The stadium is located in the Zona Norte, Rio's poorer and also more dangerous area. But you don't have to walk a lot to reach the stadium. The subway stop is just across the street.
