Beaumes de Venice. The village side of France! Fantastic, slow pace, friendly people, good wine and lots and lots of sun! This little village is situated in the south of France close to Avignon. It is located at the bottom of the ‘Dentaelles de Montmirail’ which translates to ‘Jagged Mountain’. The Key about this village is you don't go through it to go somewhere else. You go there to be there. The village is like many others in France with its tiny streets and old architecture, but villages on hills are a lot more appealing!
It is the base for a huge range of walking & Mountain bike tracks. They take you past cool tunnels and ruins used for stuff like ‘French Resistance’ and avoiding the black plague. These lead from Beaumes de Venice. If you are looking for something higher amongst the ‘jaggedness’ with views out over the chaos of provincial France. Head to the next village ‘Vacqueyras’. At the one stop light in the village turn off and head up as high as your car will allow you then you .
Other villages definitely worth a visit if your in the area are Suzzette, Le Barroux, La Roque-Alric.
Caution! Of any of the nice streams you see as there are vineyards everywhere with very little respect for the environment!
