Livi's back in Germany but this time I'm in the South! In Franken (Franconia), to be exact. And don't call it Bavaria!!!
We arrived at Nürnberg airport on Tuesday afternoon and were picked up by Andrea's parents who took us to our "hotel", which very conveniently included full board and a rental car!!! ;-)
We were pretty busy the first week, mainly with meeting friends and family and hanging out. We went to see a German movie called "Liegen lernen" (no subtitles, so poor Livi missed all the details!) and - as usual - ate way too much! We didn't do a lot of sightseeing though - that's why there are no "pigtures" of the first few days.
Today we went to Kosbach, a small town near Erlangen, where we had lunch with Andrea's parents and grandma at a restaurant famous for its fish dishes. The fish don't come from the ocean but are raised in the numerous ponds in the area. One of the region's best known dishes is "Karpfen gebacken" (deep-fried carp). By all means, try it, it's delicious!!! If you think carp is some sort of 'garbage fish' that lives in the mud, please reconsider, you don't know what you're missing!
I can also recommend one of the local beers ... it's called "Storchenbier" (stork beer) and comes from a brewery in Erlangen. And in case you're wondering what a stork has to do with beer - as far as I know, there's a nest on the brewpub's chimney!
