Saturday morning we drove up to the northwest corner of the Garden State, to High Point State Park in Sussex county. As you might have guessed, the park includes the highest point in New Jersey, at 1,803 feet above sea level. The spot is marked by High Point Monument, an obelisk. that you can see in the background behind me in the picture.
Now on a clear day the view from up there is supposed to be spectacular. And if we'd been there about 2 or 3 weeks earlier the fall foliage would have added to that. But unfortunately it was overcast on Saturday and many of the leaves had already turned brown or fallen to the ground.<B>
But it was quite warm and that's what might have attracted the thousands of ladybugs that we saw up there! They were all over the platform at the base of the obelisk, both on the walls and - and this was not a good place to be - on the ground. Poor guys! Hope they at least enjoyed their last minutes before being stepped on ... Ok, I'm being a little morbid here, must be all the falling leaves ...
On the way to the monument we had passed a winery - much to my travel buddies' surprise. Their goal is to visit all the wineries in NJ (there must be about 20 by now) but this was a new one that wasn't on their 'radar' yet! So on our way back we had to stop there and do a little tasting. And I must say, some of their wines were pretty good! Now this was this little piggy's fifth NJ winery and sometimes I'm a little afraid for my health - especially when I think about my next big trip (coming up in December, I'm so excited!!! but I had to promise not to tell anything here!) and the people we are going to meet again there ... Hope I don't turn into an alcoholic ... but on the other hand I think I had some good training when I was travelling with Carsten ... ;-)
To get back to the weather: on Sunday, of course, it was perfect again and Monday set a new temperature record in Central Park, NYC, 79 F, which is something like 26 or 27 C!!! Woo hoo! And for this Saturday the forecast says 30 F (about -1 C), brrrh!!! Talk about crazy weather!
Ok, I better stop now (and I didn't even have any wine ...), toodaloo, Livi
