This morning Neil and Gail dropped us off at the George train station, where the three of us hopped on board a train with a very difficult name – the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe! It is the last steam hauled scheduled passenger train operating in Southern Africa and it runs (more or less) along the coast from George to Knysna. The ride covers a distance of 67 kilometers in about 2 and a half hours and the train runs daily except Sunday. I highly recommend it! The section from Victoria Bay along the Cliffside and over the Kaaiman’s River viaduct to Wilderness is the best part, the view is quite spectacular! When you get onboard, make sure you sit on the side of the train that faces the ocean and enjoy the ride!
P.S.: If you are really into trains (that applied only to one of the three in our party but we went anyway ;-)), you should also check out the Outeniqua Railway Museum at the George station.
