We got up bright and early to go to the 27th Annual Hot Air Balloon Rodeo in Steamboat Springs. This year it was in a new location and the shuttle buses were still working out some kinks from the location change - but we made it to the grounds in time to see the majority of the 42 balloons lift off. It was incredible seeing the brightly colored balloons against a brilliant Colorado blue sky.
After the balloon festival we went to the Art in the Park craft show.
Of course we also could smell how Steamboat got it's name... In the early 1800's French trappers heard a chugging sound that reminded them of a steamboat on the river - but it was actually a small underground chamber that let out hot sulphur water that made the steamboat sound.
