We didn't really see much of the city, but we did hear a lot of the radio in the area. There's nothing better to get a feel for a place than spending some time listening to their talk radio shows.
Much of it was of course consumed with people upset over the terrible friendly fire bombing of some Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan by a US plane. It was front page news up here for several days, though most Americans probably never heard about it.
We stayed in a very nice Best Western with an indoor pool - all the motels were very cheap since it was not even close to either the winter or summer tourist season. In fact, I'd recommend this as a great time to go up to Canada for a visit. The weather was a bit chilly, but there were no crowds anywhere. We did miss some things that don't seem to open until May, so that might be a consideration also.
